British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation just 45 days after taking office.
"I have spoken to His Majesty the King to inform him that he is resigning as leader of the Conservative Party," he said in a message on his Twitter account.
The former prime minister will go down in history as the lowest representative in the history of the United Kingdom and the fourth Conservative to fall in six years.
There will be a leadership election to be completed in the next week.

This will ensure we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plans and maintain our country’s economic stability and national security.
I will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen.
Truss confirmed her decision citing "the impossibility of carrying out the agenda" with which she was elected "in a period of great political and international instability."
"There will be leadership elections ending next week, I will remain prime minister until a successor is chosen," he said on Twitter.
Labour Party leader Keir Starmer suggested holding a "general election" "immediately".
I recognise however that, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.

I have therefore spoken to His Majesty The King to notify him that I am resigning as Leader of the Conservative Party.
The British people rightly want stability, which is why we are addressing the serious challenges we face in worsening economic conditions.
