Canelo Álvarez has unleashed the controversy by assuring that he will not fight with boxers from his own country. This conception was accentuated after the multiple insistences that his "compatriot" Gilberto Ramírez or the Mexican-American David Benavidez had to face.

"As a promoter, I'm far from racist. I don't have a racist bone in my body. When I go out and find myself behind a lot of young fighters in a fight. It doesn't matter where they come from. They can come from Mexico or elsewhere. I just want to help boxers achieve what they want to achieve in boxing," Mayweather said in an interview with FightHype.

During an interview with Fighthype, Money said that if most boxers adopt the same stance, the sport of gloves could lose the best fights. He also recalled that Alvarez became the best pound for pound in the world in addition to facing a large number of Aztecs.

"Canelo made a career beating Mexican boxers, but now he says he doesn't want to fight Benavidez. He talks about not wanting to fight with Mexican fighters," he asked.
