Florida woman hid her mother's body in the freezer to continue cashing disability checks
Michele Hoskins, 64, was arrested Thursday and charged with failing to report her mother's death and tampering with evidence about six weeks after police made the grisly discovery at Sebastian's home.
Officers were first called to the home of Hoskins and his mother Marie Hoskins, 93, on April 28 when neighbors feared they hadn't seen the elderly woman in some time.
After obtaining a key with the help of another family member, police say officers returned and entered the property to find Michele Hoskins waiting for them inside.
At first, the 64-year-old told officers she hadn't seen her mother for some time.

Police ransacked the house and soon discovered the 93-year-old woman's body hiding in a freezer. Sebastian police say Hoskins confessed to investigators that he put his mother in the freezer so she could continue to receive her disability benefits.
He said he found his mother dead in her room of natural causes. According to police, Michele bought the freezer and put her mother's body in it, and confessed to investigators that she chose to hide her death for fear of losing her benefits.
During a search of the home, investigators found a very dirty mattress hidden among thick weeds and cut branches of palm trees in the backyard.
The autopsy revealed that the elderly woman died of natural causes and had been dead for about two weeks before her body was placed in the freezer.
Her 64-year-old daughter is being held on $10,000 bond at the Indian River County Jail.
